The main building of Nakamura's house is a three-storied front door with a frontage of three and a half shaku, and the depth is nine and a half. You can feel the life of those days in the hearth of the kitchen and the large atrium. It was designated as a national important cultural property in December 2nd year of Reiwa.

Description

The Former Nakamura Family Residence, said to have been built around the year 1843, was the home of a lacquered comb wholesaling business in Narai-juku. The main building is a typical Machiya townhouse that is common in Narai-juku, with a floor plan featuring a Doma (room with an earthen floor) on one side that extends from the front to the back, and living rooms arranged in a row alongside the Doma on the other. The design of the front’s structure also conveys the unique architectural form of this region. Behind the main building is an earthen-walled storehouse used as a lacquering workshop and for storing lacquered products, and together with the main building, they have been designated as a National Important Cultural Property. It is known that the building served as accommodation during processions of feudal lords, as well as for trading as a wholesaler and manufacturer of lacquered combs, and is a highly valuable example of the economic activities of the post towns in this region. Additionally, it is a building that embodies the historical townscape of Narai, as the discussion that came about due to the relocation of this building became an opportunity for the subsequent preservation of the Narai townscape.
